Call for Proposals – Funding for Small Research Projects Supporting St. Olavs Hospital’s Research Strategy
The university hospital is announcing funding for research projects, including research-based innovation and registry-based research, that support evidence-based clinical decision-making with a focus on sustainability in healthcare services. Funding may also be sought for participation in clinical treatment research.
Funding up to NOK 500,000 per project is available, with a project duration up to 2 years from the date of approval.
The project must be led by St. Olavs Hospital, and funding is conditional on a clearly justified endorsement from the Head of Clinic or Head of Research, aligned with the current research strategy. The person responsible for the research must describe how the project forms part of systematic efforts to build robust clinical academic environments capable of supporting clinical research.
Project finances and accounting must be administered by the Research Department at St. Olavs Hospital.
Applications must be submitted via eSøknad and will be assessed against the strategic objectives of the integrated university hospital. Patient involvement is mandatory in the projects, and a concise and specific plan for this must be described in the project description.
Funding may be sought for buy-out of clinicians, study personnel, purchase of services, participation in larger multicentre studies, and completion or initiation of research projects and/or PhD projects where the candidate holds a clinical position at St. Olavs Hospital.
Funding may also be sought for buy-out time for preparing applications for both internal and external funding.
Application deadline: 03 November 2026.
Projects will run from 01 January 2027.
The available applicant institutions have been entered in advance, and only clinics at St. Olavs hospital can be selected. The correct applicant institution is the clinic where the applicant is employed or with which the applicant has established a collaboration.
When the application is submitted, an email is sent to the Head of Clinic at the applicant institution requesting endorsement of the project. It is an absolute requirement that all applications for research funding from St. Olavs hospital are endorsed by a clinic.

A link to the application form and all other information regarding the application will be sent to the given address. Please make sure that the address is correct and in regular use.
